New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua has dismissed suggestions that he may struggle to work with aspiring National Chairman John Boadu, insisting that both are mature politicians committed to the party’s return to power.
The concerns stem from the 2022 NPP national delegates conference, where Mr Kodua defeated Mr Boadu in the contest for General Secretary.
However, speaking to Accra-based Channel One TV, Mr Kodua said neither of them had publicly expressed an unwillingness to work with the other.
“The positive aspect of it is that JB never stood anywhere and said that he can’t work with me. Likewise, I never stood anywhere and said I cannot work with JB,” he said.
“So there shouldn’t be any problem. People are entitled to make their own assumptions and to make their own estimations. But for us, we don’t have any issue. We are all mature politicians. We understand that, yes, where we are now, it’s the NPP that needs to win.”
His comments come as provisional results from the party’s national delegates congress indicate that Mr Boadu has emerged as the leading candidate in the race for National Chairman.
Mr Kodua stressed that the party’s priority should be securing victory in the 2028 general election and ensuring that its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, becomes president.
“We all have a common agenda, which is to make Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the president of Ghana in 2029. And we are focused,” he added.
He expressed confidence that Mr Boadu and the incoming national executives would work together, despite the concerns being raised about their ability to cooperate, to advance the NPP’s electoral ambitions.
