An 82-year-old woman has reportedly died from shock following the alleged destruction of more than 200 acres of farmland at Agona Kwesi-twikwaa, also known as KTK, in the Agona East District of the Central Region.
The incident is said to have occurred after suspected land guards allegedly invaded the area and used heavy-duty equipment to grade large portions of the farmlands.
Affected farmers claim the land was being cleared for suspected illegal sand-winning activities and the sale of portions to private developers.
The alleged destruction has reportedly affected cocoa, palm, coconut, yam, cassava and other crops cultivated by farmers in the area, leaving many of them facing significant losses and uncertainty over their livelihoods.
Residents and affected farmers who spoke to the media expressed concern about the scale of the alleged destruction, saying they had suffered financial losses as well as emotional distress.

Some of the farmers also alleged that the suspected land guards had been intimidating them and gradually taking control of the farmlands, making it difficult for them to protect their properties.
They are therefore appealing to the authorities to intervene urgently, halt the alleged activities and take steps to secure the farmlands.
The farmers are also demanding compensation for crops and other properties they claim have been destroyed.
Former Assemblyman for the Fawomanye Electoral Area, Albert Quainoo, said the alleged incident had taken a heavy toll on residents, resulting in the death of the 82-year-old woman from shock.
He further claimed that about 800 farmers had been affected by the alleged activities.
Mr Quainoo has consequently appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, the Minister for the Interior and other relevant authorities to intervene, stop the alleged activities and ensure that affected farmers receive appropriate compensation for their losses.
