The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will be invited by Parliament to answer questions over the state of football following the Black Stars’ poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports, Ernest Henry Norgbey, confirmed that the committee will engage the GFA amid growing concerns over the state of Ghana football.
Ghana have lost their opening two Group C matches and are yet to pick up a point in their bid to qualify for the 2027 AFCON.
The Black Stars began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Côte d’Ivoire last Thursday before suffering a more damaging 4-2 loss to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
Ghana appeared to be in control after taking a two-goal lead but surrendered their advantage in the second half as The Gambia scored four times to complete a remarkable comeback.
The result has intensified criticism of the national team’s performances and increased pressure on coach Carlos Queiroz and the GFA’s management of the Black Stars.
Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, Norgbey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, said the committee would summon the football governing body to discuss the wider concerns surrounding Ghana’s sporting fortunes.
“The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports will invite the Ghana Football Association and investigate the deteriorating state of Ghana sports,” he said.
The Black Stars will now have to improve significantly in their remaining Group C fixtures if they are to keep their hopes of reaching the tournament alive.
Ghana are scheduled to face Somalia twice in October, with the matches providing an opportunity to revive their qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars are seeking a return to the AFCON after failing to qualify for the 2025 tournament in Morocco, ending a run of more than two decades of consecutive appearances at the competition.
