Former Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says his decision to resign from the club was not related to the team’s performances or recent results.
The Ghana Premier League club confirmed on Monday that it had mutually agreed with the South African coach to terminate his contract.
Tinkler revealed that he had already made the decision to leave before Kotoko’s 2-0 defeat by Aduana FC and insisted the result had no bearing on his departure.
“I have handed in my resignation but…it has nothing to do with performance,” Tinkler told the club’s media.
“It had nothing to do with the result [against Aduana Stars]. This was a decision I had already made last week. This is the world of football.”
The 55-year-old explained that he had received an offer from a club in South Africa, which ultimately influenced his decision to leave Kotoko.
“I was given a good offer to go back to a club in South Africa, and that is the main reason why I’ve made the decision that I have,” he added.
Tinkler’s departure comes just weeks into his tenure at Kotoko, having been appointed ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
He guided the Porcupine Warriors to victory in the Democracy Cup, where they defeated rivals Hearts of Oak.
Tinkler has reportedly agreed to take charge of South African Premier League side Durban City following his departure from Kotoko.
