The Madina Member of Parliament (MP), Francis-Xavier Sosu, is in stable condition after he became unwell while delivering a presentation at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) on Thursday, September 24.
Parliament said the MP received immediate assistance after he suddenly became unwell during the event and was subsequently taken to a medical facility for further medical attention.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media Relations, David Sebastian Damoah, Parliament confirmed that Mr Sosu remains under the care of his medical team.
“The Honourable Member received immediate assistance at the event and was transferred to a medical facility, where he is receiving medical attention.
“Parliament is pleased to confirm that Hon. Sosu is in stable condition and is under the care of his medical team,” the statement read in parts.
The incident occurred while the Madina MP was speaking at the GIMPA event, where he was sharing his experiences on leadership and public service.
Members of the protocol team reportedly stepped in to prevent him from falling and quickly escorted him from the stage for medical attention.
A video of the incident subsequently circulated widely on social media, triggering concern among members of the public.
Parliament expressed appreciation to GIMPA management and staff, the medical personnel who attended to the MP and others who responded promptly to the situation.
It also thanked the public for the prayers and goodwill messages following the incident.
The legislature, however, urged the public and media organisations to stop circulating the video and refrain from speculating about the cause of Mr Sosu’s condition, citing respect for his privacy and that of his family.
The MP’s office also issued a separate statement indicating that he was doing well and had received the necessary medical attention, while urging the public to disregard unverified reports about the incident.
