Black Sherif has responded to growing conversations among fans that his music has changed significantly since he burst onto the scene with the raw and gritty sound of “First Sermon.”
The award-winning musician acknowledged that his music sounds different from what he was making when he first gained widespread attention, but insisted that the person behind the music remains the same.
According to Black Sherif, comparing his music from 2021 to what he is creating in 2026 may reveal noticeable changes in sound, but not a change in his essence.
“Me as the man, the doer, nothing has changed. From from the perspective of music, slight changes but me, the doer, I do not see any changes,” he said in an interview on TV3.
Blacko explained that the raw and grungy sound associated with his early work helped introduce him to a much wider audience, but now, he is making music based on his creativity.
He also rejected the idea of entering the studio simply to recreate an old sound because fans want it.
“There are times that I could go in the studio and say, ‘Hey, my fans need this. So make this.’ I don’t do that. My music has to come from a genuine creative space rather than from an attempt to satisfy expectations,” he said.
He described his current phase as a “reintroduction” of the artiste he wants audiences to understand, particularly as he continues to discover the different sides of his personality.
“It’s just a reintroduction of the entertainer or the type of artiste I really, really want to be to the people and how many layers there is to me. Because a lot of who I am is very unknown to me as well. I’m still redefining myself and it will be evident in my music.”
His comments come amid discussions surrounding his latest album, with some fans saying they struggle to connect with the newer, more melodic direction and miss the aggression and rawness that characterised his breakthrough records.
