A 90-year-old woman, Eno Samuwaa, has narrowly escaped death after a fire broke out at her residence at Bibiani Old Town in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
The incident occurred at the elderly woman’s home at Old Town, a suburb of Bibiani, where four rooms were reportedly engulfed in flames.
Assemblyman for Old Town, Mubarak Zakaria, said he rushed to the scene after being alerted to the fire and immediately contacted the Bibiani Municipal Fire Service.
Firefighters responded swiftly and managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from causing further damage to the property.
However, several personal belongings, including clothes, shoes, bags, materials meant for sale and other valuables, were destroyed in the fire.
The assemblyman commended the fire personnel for their prompt intervention, saying their swift response helped to contain the situation.
Acting Municipal Fire Commander, ADO I David Azuma, confirmed that the Service received a distress call and immediately dispatched personnel to the affected house.
He said the firefighters successfully contained the fire without allowing it to cause extensive damage to the building.
Mr Azuma urged the public to immediately contact the nearest fire station whenever they detect a fire to enable firefighters to respond quickly.
