Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has described the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as “the lowest moment” of his life.
Ghana endured a disappointing qualifying campaign under former head coach Otto Addo, finishing bottom of their group with just three points after three draws and three defeats.
It marked the first time in more than two decades that the four-time African champions failed to reach the continent’s flagship tournament.
Reflecting on the setback, Okraku said Ghana’s absence from the competition was difficult to accept.
“Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON was the lowest moment in my life,” he told Asempa FM.
“I believe that Ghana should be present at every AFCON,” he added.
The Black Stars are now preparing to begin their bid to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Their qualifying campaign starts with an away fixture against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on 24 September, before they host Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.
Ghana will then conclude the international window with a friendly against Morocco in Tangier on 4 October as they look to build momentum in their bid to return to the AFCON finals after missing out on the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
