Ghana forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has been called up to the Black Stars squad after Prince Adu Kwabena was ruled out of the team’s upcoming international matches through injury.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz drafted in the Coventry City attacker after Adu Kwabena suffered a head injury while playing for Czech side Viktoria Plzen in their league defeat by Slavia Prague on Sunday.
The former Bechem United forward came on in the 70th minute but was unable to complete the match after sustaining the injury late in the game.
He was stretchered off in the 90th minute, prompting concerns over his availability for Ghana’s upcoming fixtures.
Following medical assessment, Adu Kwabena has been withdrawn from the squad, paving the way for Thomas-Asante’s return to the national team.
Thomas-Asante’s inclusion provides Queiroz with an additional attacking option as Ghana prepare for a busy international window.
The Black Stars will begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign away to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on 24 September before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 29 September.
Ghana have also been dealt another setback with Mohammed Kudus withdrawing from the squad as he continues his recovery from a lengthy injury lay-off.
