The Northern Regional Ambassador for Girl-Child Education, Montum Nisaw, has urged women in the Basare community to encourage their daughters to take their education seriously to help improve girl-child participation in education in the region.
She noted that participation in education among girls in the Northern Region remains a concern and called on parents, particularly mothers, to play a critical role in ensuring their daughters remain in school.
Montum Nisaw made the call in an interview with Adom News, on the sidelines of the 2026 Basare Youth Association (BAYA) Congress held at Kpandai in the Northern Region.
She also advised young girls to remain focused on their education and avoid bad company that could negatively affect their future.
“I want to encourage my peers to stay focused on their books and avoid bad friends. Education is very important for our future, so we must take it seriously.”
The appeal, she explained, is aimed at encouraging young girls to remain committed to their education despite challenges that may hinder their progress.
The Northern Regional Ambassador further appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders to support her with educational materials and logistics to enable her intensify efforts to promote girl-child education in the Northern Region.
She specifically appealed to Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to support initiatives aimed at encouraging more girls in the region to enrol and remain in school.
Montum Nisaw said providing the necessary educational support, coupled with increased awareness among parents, would help address challenges confronting girl-child education and create better opportunities for young girls to succeed.
