President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to draw inspiration from the legacy of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, as the country marks Founder’s Day.
In a Facebook post on Monday, September 21, 2026, President Mahama described the occasion as an opportunity for Ghanaians to pause and honour what he described as the “immortal legacy” of Dr Nkrumah.
He said Nkrumah’s pursuit of liberty, Pan-African unity and self-reliance helped position Ghana as a beacon of hope on the global stage.
President Mahama cited Nkrumah’s declaration that “the black man is capable of managing his own affairs”, saying it remains a foundation of Ghana’s national pride.
According to him, although Nkrumah led the struggle for political independence, the task of nation-building remains unfinished.
“Let us draw strength from Osagyefo’s vision and contribute in our own way to attaining the Resetting Ghana Agenda.”
He urged Ghanaians at home and abroad to rise above divisions and embrace what he described as selfless patriotism in the pursuit of economic freedom and social justice.
President Mahama further called for collective efforts to build a Ghana that is prosperous, equitable and resilient.
“Just as Nkrumah fought for our political independence, we have a collective duty today to build a prosperous, equitable, and resilient Ghana.”
He concluded by wishing Ghanaians a happy Founder’s Day and called for continued commitment to the development of the country.
