Mohammed Kudus has withdrawn from Ghana’s squad for the opening matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as he continues his recovery from a long-term injury.
The Tottenham Hotspur forward had been included in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad for the qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, as well as the friendly against Morocco.
Kudus spent around seven months on the sidelines with injury and has only recently resumed competitive action for Spurs, making five appearances so far this season.
The 26-year-old has now pulled out of the squad to ensure he completes his recovery, with Ghana’s technical team expected to name a replacement.
His absence is a significant setback for the Black Stars, with Kudus regarded as one of the team’s most influential attacking players.
Ghana begin their qualifying campaign away to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on 24 September before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 29 September.
The Black Stars will then travel to Morocco for an international friendly against the Atlas Lions on 4 October.
The qualifiers mark Ghana’s attempt to return to the Africa Cup of Nations after failing to qualify for the previous edition in Morocco.
