Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo and Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil Esq. had a heated exchange on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, September 19, over how nearly 3.9 tonnes of suspected cocaine left Ghana before it was seized in France.
Mr Bentil questioned how a consignment of that size passed through Ghana’s port while Mr Baidoo rejected what he described as attempts to blame the government before investigations establish exactly what happened.
French customs seized the consignment at the Port of Dunkirk on September 10. The suspected cocaine was hidden in a container of plastic waste shipped from Ghana and is reportedly worth about €225 million.
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has said the suspects arrested in connection with the seizure had been under surveillance for between one and two years.
