On Nnawotwi Yi this week, Abena Pokua Ahwenee and her panellists will tackle three topical issues, beginning with the arrest of Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awity Baffoe. The nurse has been remanded for two weeks over alleged links to the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account, which has been critical of government officials. She is charged with abetment of publication of false news, and the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association is calling for her to be granted bail.
The panel will also tackle the Catholic Bishops’ Conference’s request for 20 percent of admissions in its senior high schools to be reserved for Catholic candidates. The call comes amid this year’s SHS placement troubles, with the bishops also demanding an independent probe into reports that some parents are being asked to pay for school places.
The discussion will close with the seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine, worth about €225 million, by French customs at Dunkirk. The drugs were hidden in a container of plastic waste from Ghana, and four Ghanaians have since been arraigned in Accra in connection with the shipment.
