Songstress Itz Tiffany is counting her losses after her properties were destroyed during the demolition of structures at Laboma Beach.
The entrepreneur, who owns Itz BOX BAR, said she supports the government’s redevelopment efforts but believes affected business owners should be compensated for their losses.
According to Tiffany, she had arranged about seven trucks to move her belongings from the premises but was prevented from entering the area by security personnel before the demolition.
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, she said several items, including an air conditioner, safe with cash and other properties, remained inside the facility when it was pulled down.
Tiffany also disputed claims that business owners were given enough opportunity to retrieve their belongings before the demolition, saying she and others who went to the site were stopped at the gate by heavily armed security personnel.
She further raised concerns about the impact of the demolition on workers and business owners, claiming that more than 300 jobs had been affected and many operators had borrowed money to establish their businesses.
The entrepreneur said her business alone had about 28 workers, while other facilities within the area employed significantly more people.
“We are in support of what the government is doing, but they have to look into compensating us,” she said, questioning how affected businesses and workers would recover from their losses.
Tiffany also claimed that drinks and other items worth hundreds of thousands of dollars were left at her premises when the demolition took place.
She called on the government to consider the losses suffered by business owners and find a way to address their concerns.
