The Upper West Regional Police Command has intercepted 192 compressed parcels of a substance suspected to be cocaine and arrested two men believed to be linked to a suspected narcotics trafficking operation.
The arrests followed intelligence received by the Police about the movement of suspected cocaine from Kumasi to Wa through the Bole enclave.
Police surveillance teams were subsequently deployed along the suspected route, leading to the arrest of 26-year-old Abdulai Isaac, a driver’s mate, at the ESP Bus Station in Wa on September 6, 2026.
A search of his backpack reportedly uncovered 192 compressed parcels of the suspected narcotic substance.
Further investigations led Police to Iddrisu Kamaldeen, who was identified as one of the alleged customers of Abdulai Isaac. According to the Police, Kamaldeen admitted that he was a customer of Isaac.
The seized substance was later subjected to a field test on September 14 by the Police in collaboration with officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Wa.
The test, conducted in the presence of the two suspects, their relatives and Police officers, reportedly returned positive for cocaine.
The two suspects have since been remanded in custody and are scheduled to reappear before the court on October 9, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Police say investigations are ongoing to track down other individuals suspected to be connected to the alleged trafficking network.
The Upper West Regional Police Command says it remains committed to tackling organised crime and disrupting the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs in the region.
