Hearts of Oak and Vision FC made emphatic starts to the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season with four-goal and three-goal victories respectively, while Asante Kotoko were held by newcomers Debibi United on a dramatic opening weekend.

The opening round produced goals across the country, with Hearts and Vision emerging as the biggest winners as debutants also made their mark.

Vision FC set the tone on Saturday with a commanding 3-0 victory over Young Apostles at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex.

Naziru Alhassan Nyenye opened the scoring early before Setsofia Aqetey struck twice to secure an impressive opening-day win.

On Sunday, Hearts of Oak produced the standout performance of the weekend, thrashing Berekum Chelsea 4-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium.

John Antwi put the Phobians in control with goals in the fifth and 37th minutes before Mamadou Kourouma added a third in the 88th minute. Ali Mohammed completed the rout with a stoppage-time penalty.

At Berekum’s Golden City Park, newly promoted Debibi United twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Asante Kotoko, while Heart of Lions were held to a goalless draw by Aduana FC in Kpando.

FC Samartex opened their campaign with a 3-1 home win over Karela United at the Nsenkyire Stadium.

Bechem United edged reigning champions Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0 thanks to Darlvin Yeboah’s first-half winner at Nana Fous Gyeabour Park.

Basake Holy Stars also left it late, with Francis Oteng’s 82nd-minute strike securing a 1-0 victory over Swedru All Blacks.

The meeting between fellow newcomers Port City FC and AshantiGold 04 ended 1-1 at Nana Boamah Darko Park.

Zak Musah gave AshantiGold the lead before Hamza Zakari equalised for the hosts in the 67th minute.

The only fixture not played was Dreams FC’s home match against Medeama SC, which was postponed because of Medeama’s involvement in the CAF Champions League.
