Minister of Science and Environment, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has called for collective action, discipline, transparency and accountability to help Ghana address its growing environmental challenges.
She made the call after officially taking over the Ministry of Science and Environment from the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources at a handing-over ceremony.
Speaking after the ceremony, Dr Agyemang-Rawlings said protecting Ghana’s environment must be treated as a shared responsibility, with government playing a central role in driving meaningful and sustainable change.
She said the government must pursue positive transformation in environmental management while ensuring that Ghana’s efforts contribute to global initiatives aimed at tackling environmental degradation and climate-related challenges.
Dr Agyemang-Rawlings urged stakeholders to pool their expertise and ideas to develop sustainable solutions to the country’s environmental problems.
She stressed that collaboration and a sense of togetherness would be critical to achieving lasting progress.
The Minister also highlighted the need for discipline in the management of public resources, urging government officials to uphold transparency and accountability in the use of taxpayers’ money.
According to her, public resources must be managed responsibly and solely in the interest of Ghanaians.
“Accountability should remain a key principle in the work of government,” she said.
Dr Agyemang-Rawlings pledged to work closely with relevant institutions, communities and other stakeholders to advance Ghana’s environmental agenda.
She further encouraged individuals and organisations to contribute their knowledge, expertise and ideas towards building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
The Minister noted that achieving meaningful environmental change would require sustained commitment from government, institutions, communities and individuals.
The handing-over ceremony formally marked the beginning of Dr Agyemang-Rawlings’ tenure as Minister of Science and Environment, as she assumes responsibility for advancing the government’s agenda on science and environmental protection.
