Aggrieved customers of the defunct Gold Coast Fund Management have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to honour his campaign commitment to settle their outstanding locked-up funds and make a dedicated provision for the claims in the 2027 Budget.

The group estimates that more than GH¢3 billion remains outstanding and wants the government to make a clear financial commitment towards settling the claims when the budget is presented in November.

Speaking to Accra-based Channel One TV, Convener Charles Nyame said affected customers had waited long enough and expected the President to fulfil his promise.

According to him, President Mahama pledged during the 2024 election campaign to pay all outstanding locked-up funds within the first year of his administration rather than spread the payments over an extended period.

“We are approaching three years on President Mahama’s administration and we’ve made a lot of effort to resolve this matter at the background with the President, with the government, but to no avail,” Mr Nyame said.

He explained that the group was specifically looking to the 2027 Budget because any planned allocation towards the settlement of the claims would have to be reflected in the government’s financial projections.

“The reason why we gave that time frame is that we understand that the 2027 Budget will be read around November. And whatever projections that the government envisions to initiate must be captured by this budget that we are looking forward to in November,” he said.

“We are hoping that the President will see the need and capture it,” he added.

Mr Nyame said the continued delay in accessing their funds had caused significant hardship for affected customers, particularly pensioners, who he claimed constitute more than 80% of the group.

He further alleged that more than 1,460 members, most of them retirees, had died since their investments became inaccessible.

The customers have therefore renewed their appeal to the government to take urgent steps to address the situation and provide a clear timeline for the payment of their outstanding claims.

“We are just appealing to the President that we have waited long enough,” Mr Nyame stressed.
