Bayern Munich started their Bundesliga title defence with a comfortable victory over Stuttgart.

Dayot Upamecano put them ahead with a clever header across the goal from Joshua Kimmich’s corner.

Stuttgart goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow made several good saves to frustrate Bayern before his side then levelled as Josha Vagnoman smashed home.

Michael Olise put Bayern back ahead, slotting in when Kimmich’s through ball found him in space.

Stuttgart goalscorer Vagnoman was then unlucky to put the ball into his own net when he slipped as he tried to clear Alphonso Davies’ cross.

Olise thought he had scored a second goal from Harry Kane’s pass but it was ruled out by the video assistant referee (VAR) for offside.

And Aleksandar Pavlovic tapped in their fourth after unselfish play from substitute Ismael Saibari.

Bundesliga debutant Saibari, a £43m summer signing from PSV Eindhoven, fed Luis Diaz to add fifth goal in stoppage time.

Vincent Kompany’s side have started the season with two wins, having beaten Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the German Super Cup last week.
