New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful, John Boadu, says his experience and understanding of the party’s internal dynamics make him well positioned to help the party return to power in the 2028 elections.
Mr Boadu said he officially filed his nomination for the National Chairman position and was encouraged by the large number of party executives and supporters who accompanied him.
“I filed my nomination today and the crowd, no doubt, it’s years of investment in people. I was even shocked. A lot of executives; it was amazing,” he said.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Boadu stressed the importance of having a National Chairman who can work effectively with the party’s presidential candidate and executives.
“If you have a presidential candidate that doesn’t gel well with the executives, it causes a lot of trouble. I work for the party,” he said.
According to him, the NPP requires a chairman who understands its structures, systems and internal dynamics, as well as someone with practical experience in party organisation.
“We need a National Chairman who understands how the system works and has experience working in the party. I have spent time studying the dynamics of the party; I have lived through it,” he stated.
Mr Boadu said the party must undertake thorough groundwork and adopt realistic strategies if it is to overcome its current challenges and win the 2028 elections.
“There is a need for proper background work in order for us to win. We need a lot of parliamentary wins. If you win the majority, it is easier for you to win the presidential [election],” he explained.
He acknowledged that the NPP is currently facing a difficult situation and said the party’s next leadership must be prepared to make strategic decisions aimed at rebuilding its electoral fortunes.
“We are at a situation as a party. Any strategy we use now must be real to find means of winning,” he said.
Mr Boadu pledged to put the party’s interests ahead of personal considerations if elected National Chairman.
“I have the party’s interest at heart, so any decision to make us win is what I will take,” he stated.
He also promised to redirect the political conversation and provide the leadership required to support the party’s presidential candidate.
“With me as National Chairman, I will redirect the conversation,” he said.
Mr Boadu further said the National Chairman must be prepared to absorb criticism and attacks directed at the presidential candidate while maintaining focus on the party’s broader objective.
“As National Chairman, you should be prepared to chest all tantrums that will be thrown at the presidential candidate. I am ready and committed to serve and bring the NPP back to power,” he added.
