The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack at Gomoa Dominase in the Central Region that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old mobile money vendor.
The robbery occurred on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at a mobile money vending point in the community.
According to the Police statement signed by DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region, investigations into the incident led to a breakthrough after an iPhone 13 Pro stolen from the deceased was detected as having been activated.
Police intelligence subsequently led to the arrest of Isaac Baffoe, alias Kwame Cheddo, at Kwesimintsim in Takoradi in the Western Region on June 26, 2026.
A search conducted on the suspect resulted in the recovery of the iPhone 13 Pro belonging to the deceased. Police said the phone had been concealed in an iPhone 17 safety case together with other mobile phone accessories.
During interrogation, Isaac Baffoe allegedly led investigators to Prince Tawiah Baidoo, a phone technician based at Kwesimintsim.
According to the Police, Baidoo confessed to replacing the motherboard, Face ID component and camera sensors of the stolen iPhone at a cost of GH¢2,650.
A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of a box containing the original motherboard, Face ID components and camera sensors removed from the deceased’s phone.
The two suspects have since been arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court and are being held pending further investigations.
The Police said the recovered iPhone and its original and refurbished components have been retained as exhibits.
Meanwhile, the Central East Regional Police Command said it has intensified efforts to identify and arrest other members of the robbery gang, as well as persons connected to the handling of the stolen phone.
The Command has appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist in the investigation.
