New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Director hopeful, Dennis “Miracles” Aboagye, has stated his commitment to the party has seen him put himself “in the line of fire” in defence of its interests.
According to Mr Aboagye, his efforts and dedication to the party over the years have been recognised by NPP members, giving him confidence in his bid to lead the party’s communications directorate.
“Everyone going into this contest has one objective, which is to see that the NPP wins the next election,” he said.
Speaking in an interview onAsempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Aboagye disclosed that about 29 people initially expressed interest in contesting for the National Communications Director position.
He said some of the aspirants eventually decided to withdraw from the race after engaging with him and observing the level of support he had received from party members.
“Some even called me to inform me that the people seem to rally behind me, so if I am going, they will step down. There were some senior officials who wanted to contest that I spoke to, and they also later called me to inform me they had stepped down,” he said.
Mr Aboagye, however, stressed that the decision of other aspirants to withdraw was not the main issue for him, saying his focus remained on the people and the broader interests of the party.
He said his engagements with senior party members and grassroots supporters were part of the qualities required to effectively lead the NPP’s communications machinery.
“I have spoken to senior members and people and interacted with them. This is also one of the metrics we have to tick in leading the communications architecture,” he stated.
The communications director hopeful described himself as passionate about the party but said he does not allow emotions to influence his political decisions.
“I am passionate, but I am not emotional. I have interacted with a lot of people to make them see the bigger picture for the party,” he said.
Mr Aboagye also highlighted his relatively short period in active politics, saying that despite being involved in active politics for only about six years, his contribution to the NPP cannot be overlooked.
“I am just six years into active politics, but no one can doubt that I have not applied myself to the best of my abilities,” he said.
“I have put myself in the line of fire for the party, and the party people recognise it,” he added.
He said his decision to contest the National Communications Director position is ultimately aimed at helping the NPP strengthen its communication strategy and win the next general election.
