The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed heads of Junior High Schools (JHS) to upload candidates’ school selection data for the 2026 placement exercise onto the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) portal.
According to a directive issued by the GES on Monday, August 24, 2026, the WAEC portal for capturing and uploading candidates’ school selection data will be available from Monday, August 24 to Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The directive, signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division (Secondary), on behalf of the Director-General, follows an earlier GES communication dated August 18, 2026, on the activation of the WAEC portal.
Headteachers who have not yet completed the uploading of candidates’ school choices on the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal for pre-testing have been instructed to complete the process by the close of work on Monday, August 24.
They are then required to capture and upload the relevant school selection data on the WAEC portal.
The GES noted that the WAEC portal allows the same school identification number and password to be used simultaneously on multiple computers.
According to the Service, the feature will allow schools with large numbers of candidates to capture and upload data concurrently, thereby helping to ensure the exercise is completed efficiently and on time.
Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education, together with Examination Coordinators, have been directed to closely supervise and monitor the exercise.
They are expected to ensure that the data of all eligible candidates are properly captured, verified and submitted within the stipulated period.
The GES has also tasked Regional Directors of Education with communicating the directive to all relevant schools within their jurisdictions and ensuring strict compliance.
The exercise forms part of preparations for the 2026 placement of candidates into second-cycle institutions.
