Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has called on party members to uphold peace, unity and a principled campaign as the party prepares for its Regional Executive Elections.
In a goodwill message ahead of the elections, Dr Opoku Prempeh wished candidates, delegates, party officials and supporters across the country a peaceful and successful exercise.
He reminded members that internal elections were an important part of democratic political parties and urged them not to allow competition to weaken the party’s unity.
“Internal elections are part of the life of every democratic party. We may compete, disagree and make different choices, but when the ballots are counted, we must remember that we remain one political family, united around a common cause and the leadership of our flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.
Dr Opoku Prempeh urged candidates to base their campaigns on ideas, service, competence and their vision for the future of the party.
“To those seeking the confidence of delegates, I wish you well. Let the contest be about ideas, service, competence and the future of our Party,” he said.
He also encouraged successful candidates to accept victory with humility, while those who lose should respect the outcome and remain committed to the party.
Dr Opoku Prempeh said strong regional leadership would be essential to efforts by Dr Bawumia to renew and reposition the NPP.
He noted that effective leadership at the regional level would help rebuild trust, reconnect with grassroots members and prepare the party for future electoral contests.
According to him, the NPP had faced difficult periods in the past and had always relied on its members to rebuild and move forward.
“The NPP has known difficult seasons before, and each generation has had to find the courage to rebuild, renew and move forward together,” he said.
He expressed hope that the regional elections would leave the party stronger, more united and determined to regain the confidence of Ghanaians.
