The Mion Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sulamana Abubakar, has resigned from his position barely two weeks after being declared winner of the party’s constituency elections.
In a resignation letter dated August 8, 2026, and addressed to the NPP Regional Chairman for the Northern Region, Mr Abubakar said his resignation takes effect immediately.
He described the decision as a personal one and expressed gratitude to the party’s Council of Elders, patrons, polling station and electoral area executives, as well as the party’s members and supporters in the constituency for the confidence they reposed in him to serve the party.
“I am incredibly grateful to the Council of Elders, Patrons, Polling station and electoral area executives and the entire membership and supporters of our party in the constituency for the confidence reposed in me to serve our great party for this short period,” he stated.
Despite his resignation, Mr Abubakar said he remains an ardent and good-standing member of the NPP and will continue to play his role as a party member.
He further expressed his commitment to helping the party recapture political power in the 2028 general elections.
“I remain an ardent and good standing member of the party and will continue to discharge my role as a member to ensure we recapture power in 2028,” he said.
Mr Abubakar also wished the constituency leadership continued success and indicated that he looked forward to maintaining contact with the party.
