Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has arrived at the Supreme Court to join NPP supporters as the party embarks on its “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration, with a petition to be presented at the Jubilee House.

The protest, organised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is aimed at drawing attention to what the party describes as threats to Ghana’s democratic governance, including concerns over freedom of expression, the treatment of opposition voices, alleged selective justice and perceived attempts to undermine state institutions.

The demonstration began at the Supreme Court and is expected to end at the Jubilee House, where party leaders will present a petition outlining their concerns.

The NPP has urged supporters to participate under the hashtags #DemocracyUnderAttack, #SaveGhanaNow and #SayNoToStateCapture, insisting that the protest is intended to defend civil liberties, uphold the rule of law and promote democratic accountability.

The government has, however, rejected allegations that it is targeting political opponents, maintaining that state institutions operate independently and that all law enforcement actions are carried out in accordance with due process.
