The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media publication alleging that Dominic Bonsu Ventures, whose proprietor was described as a former bodyguard to GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, had absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to the state gold trading authority.

In a statement issued on Monday, August 3, 2026, GoldBod said it had taken notice of the widely circulated claim and described it as malicious and deliberately intended to mislead the public.

The Board stated categorically that Mr Dominic Bonsu had never served as a bodyguard or personal security officer to Mr Gyamfi, and that any suggestion to the contrary was completely false.

GoldBod further rejected claims that it had lost or advanced GH¢200 million, or any amount of money, to Mr Bonsu or Dominic Bonsu Ventures.

According to the statement, the facts of the matter are that the licence of Dominic Bonsu Ventures was suspended by GoldBod over suspected breaches of the terms and conditions governing its licence, as well as violations of the GoldBod Trading Directives under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

The Board disclosed that following investigations and enforcement action, Mr Bonsu was arrested and remanded into lawful custody by the High Court in Accra, where he remains subject to ongoing legal proceedings.

GoldBod expressed concern that the publication of what it described as fabricated information could distort an ongoing enforcement action, misinform the public and undermine confidence in its operations.

It therefore urged the public to disregard the claims and rely only on information released through GoldBod’s official communication channels.

The Board also called on media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and uphold responsible journalism.

GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the laws governing Ghana’s gold trading sector fairly, professionally and without fear or favour.
