Ghanaian clubs Medeama Sporting Club and Nations FC will discover their opponents for the preliminary rounds of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The draw will be held at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Cairo, Egypt, where clubs from across the continent will be paired for the opening stage of Africa’s premier interclub competitions.
Medeama secured Ghana’s slot in the CAF Champions League after winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title, while Nations FC qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup after winning the FA Cup.
Both clubs will be hoping for favourable draws as they prepare to represent Ghana on the continental stage and compete for places in the group stages of their respective competitions.
The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League remains Africa’s most prestigious club competition, with the eventual winners set to receive USD 6 million in prize money. The champions of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, meanwhile, will earn USD 4 million.
CAF has also introduced a solidarity payment scheme for clubs eliminated during the preliminary rounds, with each affected team receiving USD 100,000 as part of efforts to support participating clubs and strengthen its interclub competitions.
In recent seasons, the preliminary rounds of CAF competitions have produced exciting encounters, featuring clashes between established continental powerhouses and emerging clubs seeking to make their mark on the African football stage.
Medeama and Nations FC will now await Thursday’s draw as they begin preparations for their respective continental campaigns in the 2026/27 season.
