The Chief of Akyem Sokode Dwaso, Barimah (Dr) Kwabena Awuah I, has officially sworn the Oath of Allegiance to the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, completing a key customary process that affirms his recognition as chief within the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.
The ceremony took place on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Ofori Panin Fie in Akyem Kyebi.
Barimah (Dr) Kwabena Awuah I, who is the chief of Sokode Dwaso, a suburb of Akyem Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, took the oath in accordance with Akan customs and traditions.
The swearing of the Oath of Allegiance formally signifies a newly installed chief’s acceptance and recognition by the paramount authority, enabling the occupant of the stool to fully exercise his responsibilities within the traditional area.
Addressing the gathering, the Okyenhene urged traditional rulers to lead with humility, respect and gratitude.
He advised chiefs never to take for granted the confidence reposed in them by their people, stressing that their authority and influence are derived from the communities they serve.
The Okyenhene further encouraged chiefs to honour, protect and work diligently for the development of their communities.
In his acceptance remarks, Barimah (Dr) Kwabena Awuah I appealed to Ghanaians at home and abroad, government institutions, development partners, philanthropists and other stakeholders to support efforts to improve educational infrastructure and expand access to higher education for disadvantaged students.
He said investing in education is critical to producing future leaders and accelerating Ghana’s socio-economic development.
The chief reaffirmed his commitment to promoting quality education and community development, calling for collective support to ensure that every child has access to better educational opportunities.
