The government has approved six new regulations to support the implementation of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Act, 2025 (Act 1124), in a move aimed at strengthening environmental governance, compliance and enforcement across the country.
The regulations cover key areas including Environmental Assessment, Effluent Management, Air Quality, Ozone Protection, Petroleum Operations, and the Certification of Air Conditioners.
In addition, existing environmental regulations, operational guidelines and manuals have been revised to align with the provisions of the new EPA Act.
Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, disclosed this in Parliament while responding to a question on the implementation of the new law and measures being taken to improve the EPA’s enforcement capacity.
According to the Minister, the EPA has already commenced training programmes for its staff and other stakeholders to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively enforce the new legal framework.
He said the training focuses on the new regulatory requirements, operational procedures and enforcement mechanisms introduced under the Act.
Mr Buah further announced that the recruitment of additional personnel and the establishment of new EPA offices in districts across the country would significantly boost the Authority’s operational capacity to tackle emerging environmental challenges.
He expressed confidence that the new regulations, together with the ongoing institutional reforms, would improve compliance with environmental laws and strengthen the EPA’s ability to safeguard Ghana’s environment.
