For the first time since his release from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has spoken candidly about what it felt like to be behind locked doors.
Reflecting on the experience during an interview on Hitz FM, the politician described detention as one of the most uncomfortable moments of his life, saying no amount of preparation can truly prepare a person for the reality of confinement.
According to him, it was not necessarily the physical conditions that weighed heavily on him, but the psychological reality of knowing he could no longer enjoy the freedom most people take for granted.
“It’s not the same as sleeping in your room. The mere fact that you know you can’t open the door and walk out at will is a problem. It’s a challenge,” he recounted.
Aboagye admitted the experience left a lasting impression on him, so much that he has no desire to ever find himself in a similar situation again.
“Confinement is not a good thing. I don’t want to experience it again, and I don’t wish it for anybody,” he said.
Despite the ordeal, he maintained that he harbours no resentment towards the investigators, as they were simply carrying out their constitutional mandate.
The former government official also used the opportunity to thank his political allies and supporters who reached out to him with messages of encouragement during his detention.
Miracles Aboagye was arrested by EOCO as part of investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities said to involve about GH¢55 million during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD.
He was subsequently granted GH¢50 million bail pending the outcome of investigations.
Following his release, the politician firmly rejected the allegations, insisting he was never questioned by investigators over any missing GH¢55 million and describing reports suggesting otherwise as inaccurate.
As investigations continue, Aboagye says his focus remains on cooperating fully with the authorities while clearing his name.
