The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a highway robbery on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway and recovered GH¢300,000 allegedly stolen from a victim.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., when personnel stationed at the Portor Police Barrier under the Kintampo Police Division received intelligence that a robbery was taking place a few metres away from the barrier.
The Police said officers quickly moved to the scene, where some of the suspects fled into a nearby bush.
However, one suspect, identified as Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, who was driving a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1541-25, was arrested.
During preliminary investigations, Abdul Sadat allegedly mentioned Samad Issahaka, 24, the driver of a Kia Rhino truck with registration number AS 7337-23, as a member of the robbery gang, leading to his arrest.
Police investigations revealed that the owner of the Kia Rhino, Yahaya Seidu, 35, had instructed his driver to transport him to Buipe to purchase cattle and was carrying a large sum of money for the transaction.
The Police said the driver allegedly conspired with five others to rob his employer after becoming aware that he was carrying cash.
The suspects reportedly used a toy pistol and followed the Kia Rhino from the Ashanti Region, before intercepting it after the Portor Police Barrier and making away with GH¢300,000.
A joint operation involving the Police Counter Terrorism Unit and the local patrol team led to the arrest of four additional suspects who had fled into the bush.
They have been identified as Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21; Asigri Avoka, 25; Awini Stephen, 19; and Faisal Salifu, 26.
A search conducted on the suspects resulted in the recovery of the full amount of money allegedly taken during the robbery.
The Police said during interrogation, the suspects admitted to trailing the Kia Rhino from Offinso in the Ashanti Region and carrying out the robbery at Portor after receiving information from Samad Issahaka.
All six suspects are currently in Police custody and assisting with investigations.
The Ghana Police Service commended the officers involved in the operation for their swift response and professionalism, and assured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the Bono East Region and the country.
