President John Dramani Mahama has nominated three individuals for appointment to Ghana’s Supreme Court, subject to parliamentary approval.

The nominees are Court of Appeal Justices Bernasko-Essah and Amoako Asante, as well as legal practitioner and former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Tony Forson.

The nominations were made in consultation with the Judicial Council, in accordance with the provisions of the 1992 Constitution.

Justice Amoako Asante previously served as President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice before returning to the Court of Appeal in Ghana.

If approved by Parliament, the appointments will increase the number of Justices on the Supreme Court from 18 to 21, further expanding the country’s highest court.

The three nominees are expected to undergo the constitutional vetting process by Parliament’s Appointments Committee before their appointments are considered for approval.

Upon approval by Parliament, they will be sworn into office as Justices of the Supreme Court to strengthen the apex court with their extensive judicial and legal experience.
