The founder of Roja City International Ministries, Prophet Samuel Roja, has extended support to hundreds of flood victims across seven affected communities in Accra while urging Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to strictly enforce sanitation by-laws to address the recurring flooding in the capital.
The humanitarian outreach, which began at Alajo, saw Prophet Roja lead a delegation from the church to distribute relief items including bags of rice, drinking water, assorted beverages, washing powder, and other essential household supplies to families affected and displaced by the recent floods.
The donation forms part of the church’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during disasters and helping victims begin the recovery process.
Speaking during the presentation, Prophet Roja expressed concern over the repeated flooding that continues to destroy homes, livelihoods, and properties during the rainy season.
He attributed the situation largely to poor sanitation practices, particularly the indiscriminate disposal of refuse into drains and gutters, which obstruct the smooth flow of water.
He called for stronger enforcement of sanitation regulations by local authorities, stressing that addressing the root causes of flooding requires collective responsibility from government institutions, communities, and residents.
He therefore urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to move beyond public education and strictly enforce existing sanitation by-laws to deter environmental offences and reduce the risk of flooding.
Prophet Roja also appealed to the Chief of Alajo, Nii Armah II, and other traditional authorities to intensify community sensitisation campaigns and encourage residents to adopt responsible waste disposal practices.
According to him, with weather forecasts predicting heavier rainfall in the coming weeks, there is an urgent need for residents to keep drains free of waste to minimise the impact of future floods.
He stressed that addressing the flood menace requires a collective effort involving government institutions, traditional leaders, religious organisations and community members.
“Flood prevention is everyone’s responsibility. We must all play our part by keeping our environment clean and obeying sanitation regulations to protect lives and property,” he said.
Chief of Alajo, Nii Armah II, commended Prophet Roja and Roja City International Ministries for the timely intervention, describing the donation as a demonstration of compassion and solidarity with residents during a difficult period.
Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude for the support, saying the relief items would go a long way in easing their burden as they recover from the devastating effects of the floods.
The exercise is one of several humanitarian initiatives undertaken by Roja City International Ministries, reflecting the church’s commitment to combining spiritual leadership with practical support for communities in need.
