The Western North Regional Police Command has interdicted eight police officers following a shooting incident at Sayerano in the Juaboso District that left two people dead and three others injured.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 7, 2026, the Police said calm has since been restored in the community while investigations into the incident are underway.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred on July 7 during a confrontation between some members of the Sayerano community and a police patrol team.
The Police said three people sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation. Two of the victims later died, while three others are currently receiving treatment at the Asafo Roman Catholic Hospital.
The Inspector-General of Police has directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
“As part of the investigations, all eight officers involved have since been interdicted,” the statement said.
The Western North Regional Police Command expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders for their support in helping restore calm after the incident.
The Command assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted and pledged to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
“The Western North Regional Command assures the public of a thorough investigation into the incident, and any further development will be communicated,” the statement added.
