The Buipe Market in the Savannah Region has been heavily inundated following recent rainfall, leaving sections of the trading centre submerged and disrupting commercial activities.
The flooding has created streams and small pools across key access roads within the market, making movement difficult for traders and commercial riders. Several traders were reportedly stranded as vehicles and motorcycles struggled to navigate the waterlogged routes.

A taxi driver who frequently plies the Buipe–Kintampo road on market days expressed concern over the worsening condition of the area, urging authorities to intervene urgently. He called on the District Chief Executive and Member of Parliament to prioritise the construction of a proper parking space for tricycle operators within the market to ease congestion.
Some commercial motorcycle riders also raised concerns over what they described as poor rehabilitation of the market road, which links to the Black Volta Lake area. They described the stretch as increasingly dangerous, warning that it has become a “death trap” due to its deteriorating state.

The riders further complained about the payment of GH₵10 toll fees for entry and exit during market days, questioning the purpose of the revenue collected and calling for accountability in its use.
They are therefore appealing to the DCE, the MP, and traditional authorities in Buipe to urgently fix the approximately 10-kilometre market road to prevent potential accidents and further destruction of property as the rains continue.
