The Ahafo Regional Chairman of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Samuel Otu-Appiah, has described indiscipline as one of the greatest obstacles to Ghana’s development, urging authorities to intensify efforts to address the growing problem.
He made the remarks at Goaso during the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly’s National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service, which brought together Christian and Muslim leaders to pray for the nation and its leadership.
Speaking to Adom News, Apostle Otu-Appiah said although Ghana is richly endowed with natural resources, the country’s inability to properly manage and protect them due to widespread indiscipline continues to impede national development.
According to him, illegal activities surrounding the exploitation of the country’s natural resources must be tackled urgently to accelerate economic growth and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
He warned that Ghana would continue to struggle to achieve meaningful development if leaders fail to confront acts of indiscipline with the seriousness they deserve.
“As long as our leaders do not deal decisively with indiscipline, the country’s development will continue to suffer,” he stressed.
Also addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asunafo North, Joseph Akparibo, appealed to religious leaders to intensify public education on the need for discipline and responsible citizenship.
He said the increasing level of indiscipline in the country poses a serious threat to national development and called on faith-based organisations to help instil positive values in citizens.
Mr. Akparibo also urged traditional authorities to refrain from selling waterlogged and flood-prone lands for development, describing the practice as unlawful and harmful to the environment.
He said protecting wetlands and enforcing planning regulations are essential to preventing environmental degradation and safeguarding lives and property.
