Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has sparked backlash on social media after describing a flood victim as “stupid” and a “fool” in response to a viral video calling for improved drainage infrastructure in his constituency.
The criticism follows a video showing a resident standing knee-deep in floodwaters, appealing to the MP to address choked drains and poor drainage systems in the area following heavy rains.
In a Facebook post responding to the video, A-Plus argued that politicians cannot stop rainfall and questioned what critics expected him to do about the downpour.
“Stupid man!! You could make your statement without being stupid! You could seek help without being a fool! It is raining so I should go to heaven and ask Nebuchadnezzar to stop the rain or what?” he wrote.

The MP said he had previously faced criticism over efforts to demolish structures built on waterways, recalling a similar incident involving the Mayor of Kumasi.
He argued that public officials are often condemned when they attempt to enforce measures aimed at preventing flooding, only to be blamed again when floods occur.
A-Plus also accused some Ghanaians of attempting to pressure elected officials with electoral threats, insisting that he would not be intimidated.
“I keep telling you guys, I’m not your regular MP. I’m not one of the MPs you can blackmail with votes,” he stated.
While saying residents are free to seek his assistance, the MP maintained that he would respond harshly to what he considered insulting or unreasonable criticism.
The comments have generated widespread reactions online, with many social media users debating whether the MP’s response was appropriate given the plight of residents affected by the floods.
The exchange comes as heavy rains on Monday caused severe flooding in several parts of Accra and other communities, leading to loss of lives, destruction of property and renewed calls for improved drainage infrastructure and flood prevention measures.
