Chief Executive Officer of Star Oil, Kwame Tieku, has advised motorists to avoid purchasing fuel on Monday unless it is absolutely necessary, citing the risk of floodwater contaminating underground fuel storage tanks following the heavy rains.
In a Facebook post, Mr Tieku cautioned that flooding could lead to water entering underground fuel tanks at filling stations, potentially affecting fuel quality.
“Avoid buying fuel today if not urgent‼️ Floods are a big risk for water entering fuel underground tanks!! Our teams are constantly monitoring for water infiltration though… but avoid filling up if you can,” he wrote.
He assured customers that Star Oil’s technical teams are actively monitoring its underground storage tanks for any signs of water infiltration to ensure fuel quality and safety.
His caution comes as parts of the country continue to battle widespread flooding after hours of heavy rainfall, with several roads rendered impassable and residents displaced.
Motorists have therefore been encouraged to exercise caution and postpone refuelling where possible until flood conditions improve.
