The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged residents of Accra to prioritise their safety as heavy rains triggered widespread flooding across the capital on Monday, June 29.

In a message shared on social media, Mr Asiedu Nketia expressed concern for families affected by the floods and appealed to the public to take precautionary measures as emergency responders continue rescue operations in several communities.

“Accra has taken on a lot of water this morning, and my heart is with every family caught in it.

Please put safety first. Nothing you own is worth more than your life. Check in on your neighbours, especially the elderly and the young ones.

To everyone already out there helping, thank you.

Stay safe.”

His message comes as parts of the capital remain inundated following hours of heavy rainfall, leaving several roads impassable, stranding commuters, and prompting emergency services to carry out rescue operations in affected communities.

Authorities have continued to urge the public to avoid flood-prone areas and comply with safety advisories as response efforts continue.
