The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has made a passionate appeal for improved coordination among security and emergency agencies as heavy rains continue to trigger widespread flooding in Accra.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the Minister stressed the need for seamless collaboration to effectively manage the ongoing situation.

“I want to thank NADMO, the Navy, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police and all the emergency teams for the work they have already started doing, so please be connected to each other,” he said.

He urged agencies not to pass responsibility when emergency calls are received, emphasising the importance of unity in operations.

“If a call comes to the National Fire Service and you think it is something you need to link them to NADMO, don’t say this is not for us; please let us work together and operate as one unit,” Muntaka added.

The Minister also advised residents to work from home where possible due to the deteriorating weather conditions.

“Based on what the Meteorological Department is telling us, we expect it to be heavier if the prediction of more rains from Togo gets here, so please stay home and work from home,” he said.

He further encouraged employers to adopt flexible arrangements, including virtual meetings for non-urgent engagements.

The appeal for inter-agency collaboration comes as emergency teams continue to manage flooded roads, traffic disruptions, and other challenges caused by the heavy downpour.

Authorities say they are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to remain vigilant and report emergencies promptly.
