Police in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who allegedly shot a 27-year-old Community Police Assistant at Dwakessiem near Dunkwa-on-Offin.

The victim, identified as Emmanuel Agyapong, is currently receiving treatment at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after being referred from the Dunkwa-on-Offin Municipal Hospital following a gunshot wound to his right thigh.

The incident reportedly occurred between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

According to police, the victim was attacked by a group of unidentified men who fled the scene immediately after the shooting, prompting a full-scale investigation and manhunt.

Speaking to Adom News, the Upper Denkyira East Municipal Police Commander, DSP Simon Boavo, said preliminary investigations suggest the incident stemmed from an altercation between the Community Police Assistant and occupants of a motorbike.

He explained that one of the riders reportedly sustained an injury during the confrontation and left the scene, allegedly returning later with a group of men, some armed with cutlasses and a pump-action shotgun.

DSP Boavo noted that during the attack, a shot was fired, hitting the victim in the thigh, while another warning shot was also discharged before the assailants fled.

He appealed to the public to support security personnel in their duties and urged bystanders to intervene early in such confrontations to prevent escalation.

Police say investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to track down and arrest those responsible.
