Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama is preparing a special package for the Black Stars following their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The announcement was made during a government delegation visit to the team’s camp in Rhode Island on Thursday, ahead of Ghana’s final Group L match.
Ablakwa delivered a message of support from the President, whom he described as a strong admirer of the national team.
“I want to bring you very warm greetings from His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, who, as you know, is your ardent fan,” he told the players.
“He sent the Vice President earlier when you were in Canada, and he has asked us to convey his respects, and he wishes that you know that he is rooting strongly for you.”
He went on to reveal that the President intends to reward the squad after the tournament.
“He is your number one fan, and he has a very special package for you when you return to Ghana after this tournament. You can trust President Mahama to deliver on his promise.”
Ablakwa also praised government efforts to ensure the team has had the necessary support and conditions to focus on their performances.
“So far, he has given you all that you need and all that is required, and we are very, very proud of what you have achieved on the field,” he added.
The delegation was led by Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith, and included Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams as well as businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama.
On the pitch, Ghana began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Panama before securing a hard-fought goalless draw against England.
The Black Stars head into their final Group L fixture against Croatia on Saturday knowing that victory will guarantee a place in the Round of 32.
The team has since relocated from Rhode Island to Philadelphia ahead of the decisive match.
