SWED Mining Ghana Limited says it remains the rightful 100 percent owner of the Bondae mining concession and has strongly dismissed comments made by NDC National Organiser, Joshua Akamba, describing them as uninformed and misleading.
The Director of Operations of the company, Kwaku Addy, speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, insisted that SWED Mining entered into a legally binding joint agreement in 2019 with a partner company to develop the concession after significant financial investment was injected into the project.
According to him, under the agreement, the partner company was entitled to 85 percent of proceeds, while SWED Mining retained 15 percent as the concession owner.
“We signed a valid agreement and submitted a copy to the Minerals Commission as required by law,” Mr. Addy stated.
He explained that the arrangement initially worked smoothly, with SWED Mining receiving its 15 percent share from the first and second consignments.
However, he said challenges began when payments suddenly stopped.
“On the third consignment, they told us there was no significant gold, so we did not receive our share. The same explanation was given for the fourth consignment,” he said.
Mr. Addy further alleged that the situation worsened when the company’s representative at the site was removed, cutting off SWED Mining’s access to operational information.
“They started making false allegations against our representative and sacked him from the site, so we had no access to updates on production,” he added.
He said SWED Mining later engaged the Minerals Commission and its legal team, eventually moving to terminate the agreement after repeated disputes.
“After termination, they even prevented us from entering our own concession. We don’t have access to the site anymore,” he alleged.
His comments come in the wake of reports that the Western Regional Police intervened to prevent a suspected forceful takeover of a mining concession at Prestea Bondaye in the Western Region.
According to sources, the incident involved a group of men allegedly dressed in military-style gear attempting to eject Ghanaian workers from the site.
The concession is currently the subject of an ongoing legal dispute at the Sekondi High Court involving Long Shine Mining Ghana Limited.
Police intervention reportedly prevented a potential confrontation as investigations continue into the matter.
