The Western Regional Police have reportedly foiled an alleged attempt by a politician and some Chinese nationals to forcefully take over a mining concession at Prestea Bondaye in the Western Region.
According to sources, the incident occurred over the weekend when a group of men dressed in military-style gear allegedly attempted to drive away Ghanaian workers operating at the site.
Police intervention is said to have prevented a possible violent confrontation.
Preliminary information indicates that the concession is currently the subject of an ongoing legal dispute at the Sekondi High Court, following a suit filed by Long Shine Mining Ghana Limited.
Reports further suggest that both the police and the Municipal Chief Executive declined to support the alleged takeover due to the pending court case.
The situation comes amid intensified government efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities, including operations targeting sites linked to foreign nationals.
Stakeholders are now calling for a thorough investigation into the incident and urging all parties to respect due legal processes as the court determines ownership of the concession.
