The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has reassigned the Bogoso–Prestea road project to a new contractor after prolonged delays and poor progress by the previous contractor, Black Oak.
The minister revealed this when speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Development on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
He explained that the ministry and the Highways Authority have tried to maintain pressure on the contractor to accelerate work, but this has not yielded the expected results.
He added that residents and traditional leaders were very concerned about the deteriorating condition and the slow pace of work on the 23-kilometre road.
According to him, the Chief Executive of the Highways Authority has had several meetings with the contractor to ensure progress, but performance remained below expectation.
“So when we went to the site, I asked him to step aside. I asked the contractor to leave the site, and as I speak to you, a new contractor has mobilised to do the work,” he told the committee.
The minister stressed that the reassignment was necessary to prevent further delays and ensure the completion of the project, which is key to improving road connectivity in the area.
He added that the decision followed sustained concerns over the contractor’s inability to deliver, with work on the project remaining far below acceptable standards.
