The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central Municipal, Solomon Kusi Brako, has expressed concern over the growing sale and use of illicit and unprescribed drugs among the youth, warning that the Assembly, in collaboration with security agencies, will intensify efforts to crack down on offenders.

Speaking at a ceremony in Akyem Oda, Mr. Brako described the increasing attraction of young people to illicit drugs and excessive alcohol consumption as a serious threat to society that requires urgent intervention.

The MCE made the remarks while presenting support packages to 22 apprentices who had successfully completed their vocational training. The beneficiaries received sewing machines, hair dryers, startup kits, and seed capital to enable them to establish their own businesses and become self-reliant.

Mr. Brako disclosed that the initiative was funded through 30 percent of his salary as part of his commitment to youth empowerment and economic development within the municipality.

He stressed that the Assembly, working together with regulatory and security agencies, would not relent in efforts to combat the illegal drug trade, particularly activities targeting young people.

According to him, the rising abuse of illicit drugs and alcohol among the youth threatens the future of the country and must be addressed collectively.

Mr. Brako further called on residents to support the fight against drug abuse, emphasizing that anyone found engaging in the sale of illegal drugs would face the full force of the law.

The beneficiaries, after receiving the equipment and financial support, expressed gratitude to the MCE for his continuous assistance and responsiveness to their needs. They pledged to make good use of the support to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute positively to the development of their communities.
