Ghana Premier League powerhouse Asante Kotoko have officially appointed Dutch-Surinamese football icon Stanley Menzo as the club’s new Technical Director ahead of the upcoming season.

The appointment forms part of the Porcupine Warriors’ broader strategy to reinforce their technical department and establish a stronger foundation for long-term football development.

Menzo joins the Kumasi-based club with an extensive football background spanning decades as both a player and coach. Widely regarded as one of the most respected figures in Dutch football, the 62-year-old built a distinguished career that began in his native Suriname before reaching its peak in Europe.

The former goalkeeper rose to prominence with Ajax Amsterdam, where he became one of the continent’s leading shot-stoppers during the late 1980s and early 1990s. During his successful spell with the Dutch giants, Menzo collected several domestic titles and played a significant role in the club’s success on the European stage, helping Ajax secure major continental honours, including the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Cup.

His impressive club performances earned him international recognition, leading to appearances for the Netherlands national team.

After hanging up his gloves, Menzo moved into coaching and football administration, building a diverse résumé across multiple continents. He has held coaching roles at FC Volendam, Ajax Cape Town in South Africa and Chinese outfit Beijing Guoan.

The experienced football administrator also served as Technical Manager of the Aruba national team, where he further developed his reputation for nurturing talent and implementing football development programmes.

Most recently, Menzo was at the helm of the Suriname national team, overseeing the country’s campaign in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers before leaving the position ahead of the playoff stage.

In his new role at Asante Kotoko, Menzo will be responsible for shaping the club’s technical vision, overseeing player development pathways, strengthening recruitment processes and guiding the overall football philosophy.

His arrival is expected to play a key role in Kotoko’s ambitions to maintain their status as one of Ghana’s leading clubs while improving their competitiveness on the continental stage.
