The Ashanti Regional office of Ghana Water Limited has announced a temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to allow for critical repair works on its transmission pipeline.
According to the company, the maintenance exercise is necessary to safeguard the integrity of the pipeline and ensure the continued reliability of water supply to customers.
The shutdown is scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, and end at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The interruption is expected to affect customers within the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and several adjoining communities that depend on water supplied from the Barekese Treatment Facility.
Ghana Water Limited explained that the repair works are essential to prevent potential operational challenges and improve the long-term sustainability of water service delivery in the region.
The company has therefore advised residents, institutions, businesses, and other consumers in the affected areas to store adequate quantities of water ahead of the shutdown period to minimise inconvenience.
Management expressed regret for any disruption the exercise may cause but stressed that the works are critical to maintaining a reliable water supply system.
The company assured customers that water production and distribution would resume immediately after the completion of the repair works.
Ghana Water Limited also appealed to the public for patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout the maintenance period as efforts are made to strengthen service delivery across the Ashanti Region.
